Philanthropy
What is Global Service Initiative?
Global Service Initiative, or GSI for short, is the primary non-profit organization that all 80 Delta Upsilon chapters across the world raise money and awareness for. GSI’s primary function is to send Delta Upsilon members to communities across the world, primarily the United States and more recently Jamaica, to build essential infrastructure like homes, churches, and schools for communities during times of need. Each chapter raises money towards the materials needed to construct such buildings and can send several members on these week-long service trips each year depending on how much money they raise through chapter created philanthropy events. The ISU Delta Upsilon chapter had been exceptional in their fundraising and has at least two members each year attend a GSI service trip. During the 2017-2018 academic year, our chapter raised $7,800 for GSI.
Delta Scoopsilon
Delta Scoopsilon is the chapter’s annual Fall philanthropy event. The chapter raises money and awareness towards GSI through the selling of banana split sundaes at the chapter house. Delta Scoopsilon however is much more than just selling banana split sundaes. Each fall our philanthropy events are improving and becoming more successful as the years go on. This year, Delta Scoopsilon will not only have banana split sundaes but will also include interactive festivities, local and national sponsors, and information describing the impact that GSI has had over the years.
DU Donuts
DU Donuts is the chapter’s annual Spring philanthropy where money is raised through ticket sales to a breakfast themed dinner with eggs, bacon, sausage, and Krispy Kreme doughnuts. DU Donuts was created in the Spring of 2016 and has grown into a successful philanthropy event.
